Here's a update of my day three and four training at KL. The third day of our training, we did the heli escape theory and practical and CPR training. After a morning of lecture, we got into our coveralls and straight to the pool. This is the pool we were in when we pratise the heli excape. It comes in three stages. First, u get into the heli, when it is half submerged in the water. Then the heli go up. We practise the impact drill. The heli will drop slowly, upon hiting the water, we are suppose to change stance. Meaning instead of holding our head firming, we need to get into "break windows/door" position. Then we practise breakign the window. Which is fairly easy at the surface, i guess. I was lucky as i was at the door. A simple switch, the door drops into the pool. Then while still staped to the seat. The instructor will tell us he will submerged the whole heli into the water and we are suppose to get ourself out of the water. With the windows and door already opened. Sounds easy huh? But i was pretty scared. lol. I kinda freak out initially. Coz when the heli submerged, i tried to open my eyes to see stuffs. But i cant see much, at the same time, i let loose my grip to the door. As the heli was flipping, i suddenly got a bit "gan chiong" and was panicking looking for the door frame. The bloody door was so huge, that i couldnt find it. After almost 5sec, which seems like 30sec in the water, upside down. I got hold of the frame n wanted to pull myself out of the seat. Then i realised my seatbelt was still one... der... Making me even more "Gan Chiong"... The seat belt was the airplane type. very easy to open. But i was so blur... that i was trying to open it on the other side... *stupid sia* then took my another 5sec or so to wake up my idea n open the belt and pull myself out of the heli n resurfaces... Man... kinda scary sia....
This picture show how high we were before we were dropped down, slowly into the water. The last one was the most scary one... Coz this time, we will be dropped into the water. With the door n windows closed. There will not be any stopping. So from top to hit water to submerge to flip. And we are suppose to hit open the windows and doors only after we were flipped over under the water. This time only two person at a time for safety purpose. There were two divers in the pool and an instructor with us. This time i wanna try the window side. To get a better feel. We are suppose to get into position upon hitting the water. With our hands stretched to the side of the window, shoulder close to it. We are suppose to use our shoulder to bang the window to open it. AS the heli flipped upside down, my body was pulled away from the window, due to the direction of the turn. When i am totally upside down, my shoulders were some distance away from the windows. Using it to bang the windows is not quite possible... U hav to work against the water resistance to hit the windows, some more i need some strength to bang it. Instead, i used my plam to ban it. Once, twice, dun open... "nabe" Third time, bang, opened n i hurried out of my seatbelt and out to the surface... Damn, i dun wanna do this again...Actually come to think of it, it is really stupid to do it under water. After clarifying with the instructor, we could do it the moment we hit the water. Not before that as the window or door might come loose and hit the prop, which might cause some explosion or dmg to the stability of the heli b4 landing.
Next we did CPR and Choking ex. There is some changes to the standards of the CPR. Instead of the "one n two n three n four n five..." we have to do it very fast. 100 compression/min. so it will go like 1,2,3,4,5..... then two smelly breaths to the victims to wake them up. Didnt do the practical as i feel its pretty stupid. The instructor didnt emphasise locking of the elbows when doing the compression. I rem that if we do not lock the elbows, we rick breaking the ribs of the victims, coz the compression strength will not be controlled. Anyway, i doubt i will use it as i really scared to breaks the ribs of the victims. Unless... i really really really need to do it...
Next we had this choking practise. First time seeing this "guy". I find it quite funny to use it. As u can see on the next photo...

I guessed the position a bit sala ba. Some more the instructor specifically says dun do it with the victim facing downwards... Coz it will look even more wrong... lol
